Selendy Gay Team Named Twice in AmLaw's "Litigator of the Week"

In this week’s “Litigator of the Week” column from Litigation Daily, two litigation teams were featured by AmLaw for their recent victories.

The first mention celebrates the trial team that secured a top-to-bottom liability win on December 1, 2022 on behalf of client Cerberus Capital Management in a breach of contract action against Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce (CIBC), one of Canada’s largest banks. After a subsequent damages hearing and related decision that rejected nearly all of CIBC’s damages arguments, the New York Supreme Court – on February 6, 2023 – entered judgment for Cerberus for $855 million. The Selendy Gay team included partners Philippe Selendy, Sean Baldwin, and Oscar Shine, and associates Michael Duke, Will Rathgeber, Mathew Elder, and Drake Reed.

The second mention recognizes a pro bono team and their victory this week in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. Legal Aid Society, Legal Services NYC, and Selendy Gay secured a ruling on two Federal appellate cases, upholding the Housing Stability and Tenant Protection Act of 2019 and New York’s Rent Stabilization Law which  protect thousands of tenants in the state. The team includes partners Caitlin Halligan and Sean Baldwin and associates Michael Duke, Babak Ghafarzade, and Katya Stynes.
