Docketing Specialist

Selendy & Gay seeks a Docketing Specialist who will be responsible for the daily docketing activities of a full-service Managing Clerk’s Department. This includes the processing of incoming court documents, docketing of relevant court dates and deadlines, and running reports. Candidates must be able to: interpret civil rules of procedure in state and federal courts and accurately calculate dates; effectively communicate in writing and verbally with all levels of the Firm and court; and prioritize and organize a high-volume workload.

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Stay current on court procedure and rule changes
  • Enter upcoming court/due dates and related documents into an automated docketing system
  • Review docketing records to ensure correct assessment of deadlines and accuracy of database
  • Download and docket federal and state court filings from docket email box
  • Provide necessary follow-up to attorneys, legal assistants and secretaries regarding input of calendared events
  • Daily communication with court reporters and Firm colleagues to coordinate and schedule depositions, court appearances, trial dates and hearings
  • Review and enter all incoming calendar-related mail
  • Guarantee distribution of multiple calendars
  • Keep abreast of court procedures and rules in all venues regarding deadlines and filing requirements and share information with the team
  • Know how to electronically research court cases to maintain an accurate record
  • Knowledge of how to electronically file documents


  • Minimum 3 years docket/law clerk experience
  • Strong knowledge of federal and state courts and agencies and associated rules
  • Experience with rules-based calendaring software (e.g. CompuLaw, eDockets)
  • Demonstrated familiarity with federal, state and local court systems, including electronic filing
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Adobe Acrobat and Excel


  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree
  • Experience with Law Bulletin/JuraLaw, Lexis CourtLink or West CourtExpress
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Able to work effectively with others
  • Able to preserve confidentiality and exercise discretion
  • Able to work under pressure and manage multiple projects with competing deadlines and priorities
